Trailblazing Trump

Trump's unapologetic unconventionality

Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign is far from Conservative, but given this genius strategy invites moderate and even traditionally Democratic voters to his base, as well as being the Conservative’s candidate, this is not a bad thing.

Despite sounding contradictory, Trump doesn’t have to be a Conservative himself to be the Conservative’s president, in the same way he is considered the first black president by many pro-Trump blacks. Despite his European ethnicity, Trump’s achievements of record-low black unemployment and decreasing rates of black poverty failed to leave the minds of those impacted. The 45th president’s incredible ability to run a campaign as such has made him a trailblazer for future Conservative leadership, despite not being a Conservative himself.

Trump realized that steadfast conservative leadership is instrumental in “taking back” this country, while also noting that he needs to win the race in order to do so. Instead of choosing to run a campaign directed exclusively towards his guaranteed Conservative supporters, he has moved on to attracting never-Biden Independents and Democrats, who may still be apprehensive about voting MAGA 2024. However, the campaign isn’t everything. Trump has been given the unique tool of his presidential record to both win over voters and remind Conservatives of Trump’s intended effort to lead Conservatives into higher government ranks.

Conservatives have an M.O. of losing, from ineffective campaign strategies to resisting any sort of compromise. However, in his contrarian nature, Trump acts against this, showing Conservatives how to govern effectively. Observable with any spending package the former president signed despite his reservations, he models the idea of working with what he has, in hopes of using it to gain further ground looking forward. Moreover, Trump makes mild concessions in order to secure his win in 2024. In an interview on the All-In Podcast, when asked if he promises to welcome skilled immigrants into America even while shutting down illegal migration, due to the fact that businesses benefit from foreign born labor, Trump guarantees it. In fact, he goes as far as promoting the idea of stapling a green card to the diploma of any non-American college graduate. Although not the most conservative immigration policy, as a businessman himself, there is good reason to believe the man when he says he personally agrees with the idea.

Trump is safe in building on his theory of immigration despite the difference between Conservative and “Trumpian” thought, because it is not significant enough to discourage Traditionalists’ support of him, and also helps gain the moderate vote. In this forward-focused way of campaigning, he moderates certain points today, so he can advance the Conservative cause tomorrow. He would never admit this verbally, as it obviously contradicts his campaign message, but in terms of his actions taken both now and in the past, Trump’s support of the Conservative message is obvious.

Overall, even though Trump is not a Conservative himself, he is introspective enough to see that a Conservative revival is what America needs, in the same way I (a Catholic) know that the reinstitution of Protestant values is what The United States needs as that is the type of Christianity it was founded on. By working for the betterment of society by advancing values that aren’t necessarily his own, Trump knows that in the long run, it will allow the more moderate people like him to function and even exist in American society in the future. This may be the ultimate concession, but is yet another way of showing Conservatives how to govern effectively in the future Trump would create.
